Kay F. Crum was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and
has been influenced by both the varied sights of the metropolitian
area and the beauty of the surrounding mountains. Extensive world
travel has broadened her scope and is reflected in her paintings.
ACTIVITIES & EXHIBITIONS
Kay is a member of The Rehoboth Art League, Delaware Watercolor
Society, Art League of Ocean City, Art Institute & Gallery of
Salisbury, and The Art League in Alexandria, VA. In the last year,
Kay was awarded prizes with the Art League of Ocean City and the
Art Institute & Gallery.
Before moving to the Bethany Beach area, Kay lived in Pittsburgh.
She belonged to several art groups South Arts, South Hills
Art League, Bethel Artist Guild and Mc Murray Art League
and has participated in many shows and won numerous awards. Kay
has served as a guest lecturer, demonstrator and judge for various
organizations. Her work is included in private and corporate collections
throughout the United States. In the Washington DC area, she is
a member of The Art League at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria
VA. For several years, she also belonged to the Capital Hill Art
League and had two individual shows in the DC area.
PAINTING CLASSES
For many years, Kay has taught both group and private classes, working
with students from six to ninety-six. She had expanded her teaching
to include classes at Chautauqua Institute and the Cunard Cruise
Line. Kay now teaches classes for adults and children in the Bethany
Beach area.
Kays undergraduate and graduate degrees are from Carnegie
Mellon University. She has a BS in Home Economics Education and
worked for Pennsylvania State University in the Extension Service.
She also has a Masters of Public Management from the Heinz School
in Management of Non-Profit Organization and Arts Management.
ARTS MANAGEMENT
Kay was the founder of South Arts, an organization serving as a
catalyst for arts education, exhibition and outreach. The group
provided programs for the South Hills area of Pittsburgh and the
surrounding municipalities. Kay served as Board President and then
Executive Director. She has received awards for her work including
the CNG VITA (Volunteer in the Arts) Award. This award gave recognition
to those who serve the arts and Kay was in the first group to be
recognized. She also was presented with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
House of Representatives Citation for her contributions to the development
and growth of South Arts.
Now retired from arts management, Kay concentrates on the painting
and enjoys her many hours in the studio.
